WE’RE A FEEL GOOD, DO GOOD KIND OF STORE

Eldorado General Store exists as a platform to share an ethos that rings true to our core; that together we can make positive change. Since 2013, the year Detroit announced bankruptcy, we’ve been working passionately to create a community grounded in values that put people and planet before profit while preserving art, stories, history, and wisdom from other eras and cultures.

At Eldorado, we believe in loving good quality pieces made to last lifetimes and beyond. We’re on a mission to fight practices that compromise the health of Mama Earth and the quality of life for the people living on her. For the better part of a decade we have proudly given our guests purchasing power to support local artists and makers, female entrepreneurs around the country, minority small business owners, Indigenous People around the world, sustainable, ethical, and fair-trade practices.

We understand that every dollar spent is a vote for how we want our world to be, and we’re passionately dedicated to providing options that can make everyone feel good.

COMMUNITY IS OUR CORE VALUE

Eldorado General Store was the first retail store to open in over a decade along Michigan Avenue (US Highway 12) in Corktown - Detroit’s oldest neighborhood that sits less than half a mile from downtown.

An ever changing social art experiment, Eldorado was originally founded with the intent of helping shift the narrative and perspective of the City of Detroit in the wake of bankruptcy while pioneering conversations in Detroit around conscious consumerism, sustainability, supporting female entrepreneurs, and introducing metaphysical healing practices and tools. We’ve proudly participated in the backyard economics that’s built our neighborhood and city.

This experience brought understanding of the immense value a small brick and mortar shop could have in an underserved community.  Bringing people together is always at the forefront of our initiatives. We believe that gathering breaks down barriers and leads to understanding, compassion, and a stronger community.

WE’VE MADE A LOT OF GREAT MEMORIES IN CORKTOWN.

WE CAN’T WAIT TO MAKE MORE.

A few of our favorite moments of Detroit magic from the 5 years of Spring Into Corktown and Corktown Aglow - two neighborhood wide events founded by Eldorado owner, Erin Gavle. Their focus is to bring the business and residential community together, providing free activities and fun to our neighborhood while instilling community service into each event. Bonfires, roasting marshmallows, petting zoos, yoga in the park, education around eating healthy, live music, henna, face painting, story telling, bounce houses, pictures with Santa - are just some of the amazing moments we’ve had here in Corktown.

POSITIVE IMPACTS. REAL CHANGE.

The gratitude we feel for the work we get to do is humbling - every time you support Eldorado, you help support our mission to make positive change. And we’re so thankful for that support.

Because of you, we were/are able to:

  • Support numerous Native American initiatives throughout the country that promote the preservation of native arts and culture.

  • Provide above living wage jobs to women living in the city of Detroit

  • Stock our shelves with over 80 small businesses: female, minority, local and/or US makers

  • Create 2 annual neighborhood-wide events boosting Corktown’s small business economy while strengthening its community. Corktown Aglow was founded in 2016 and Spring Into Corktown founded in 2017.
