Morganite is known as the Pink Emerald and is believed to inspire feelings of love, peace and a connection with angels. When morganite was discovered in California in the early 1900s, it was called pink emerald or pink beryl. The gemstone became a favorite of the famed chief gemologist of Tiffany & Co., G. F. Kunz. In 1911, Kunz suggested naming the gemstone in honor of J. P. Morgan, the tycoon banker and gem collector who was one of Kunz's biggest customers. Pink beryl became known as morganite from then on.
